Discover the best activities to do & places to visit on St-Barth

There’s a reason why celebrities, models, socialites, and It girls consistently retreat to the tropical paradise of St. Barth’s. The island, an overseas collectivity of France, blends the sophistication of St.-Tropez with the laissez-fare Caribbean lifestyle—which means it’s exclusive yet totally unpretentious. Walk into any beachfront restaurant, for instance, and you’ll see well-dressed women with Birkins eating lunch beside sandy, barefoot beachgoers; walk into a club wearing jean cutoffs and no one will raise an eyebrow. It’s a specific brand of laid-back luxury that breeds instant converts. Make one trip, and you’ll find yourself immediately hooked.

Still, St. Barth’s can be an intimidating place to navigate if you’ve never been. Even the island’s name is cause for confusion—is it St. Bart? St. Barth? St. Barth’s? (The answer: St. Barth’s to locals; St. Bart's to English speakers.)

Sailing  or yachting around the island is one of the best things to do in St Barts. You can book a day charter that takes you all around the island and stops off at the beaches along the way. Sail at your own pace and soak in the views. Chartering a boat is a great way to see the island and explore some of the best beaches. As you sail along the coast, stop and swim in the sea, snorkel around the reefs and see if you can spot any turtles or tropical fish.

The options here include catamarans which are ideal for snorkelling or romantic sunset cruises which are perfect for couples visiting the island. At our Agency, our complimentary pre-arrival concierge will take care of all the details so you can relax and enjoy this Caribbean adventure.

One of the best beaches to stop at as you sail around the island is Colombier. This beach is not accessible by car. You must hike for 15-20 minutes until you reach this secluded beach. It is one of the best beaches on the island because of this peaceful ambience.

The charters can nestle in the calm waters of this bay as you can swim to shore. You can even organize a private lunch set up on the beach. The beach here offers the cleanest, crystal-like waters, which are a delight to swim in.

If you go to St. Barth’s and don’t experience Le Ti St-Barth, you’re doing it wrong. The raucous, kitschy nightclub is a rite of passage for first-timers. Waiters whisk you into a secret back room, dress you up like you’re going to Burning Man, and send you off onto the strobe light–soaked dance floor. (Hot pink mullets, matador capes, and feather boas are standard attire.)

Luxury shopping

Imagine shopping tax-free in Paris or New York– that’s basically what duty-free shopping on St. Bart’s is all about. Many of the same high-end retailers you’ll find on Fifth Avenue or in Faubourg Saint-Honoré have boutiques in Gustavia — Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, and Bulgari, to name a few.

Frommers Travel Guides said:  St. Barths culinary scene is comparable to dining on the French Riviera (but, of course, with a distinctive Caribbean twist).
